Any reason to suspect that it’s anything other than a battery? Won’t turn on when it’s plugged in, either.

Mine freaked out like that a couple months ago. Go online and remote wipe back to factory specs from Find My iPhone. Hope you had it backed up...

Try holding down the two buttons at the same time for a minute with it plugged in. This hapoened to me a few times.

Like Skychismo said, hold down top power on button and circle home button for about 5 seconds.
Mine will shit it’s self off sometimes and this is some sort of power on reset or something. I have a 5c that’s a few years old.

Have not tried this yet. Phone is at home so will try later. Does this scramble the brain, or is it just another kind of reset?

Your phone shit itself? ;)
This is an older 5 or 5S. Never had such an issue with any of my iPhones.

Just a soft reset from my experience. Just turns it on.

I expect it to work, like every other iPhone I’ve owned. Never had a problem.
